HMNZS Wellington Configuration Change

For this project we designed and supplied the electrical distribution equipment for the configuration change to the HMNZS Wellington for Babcock and the Royal New Zealand Navy. We also designed and supplied the original equipment when the vessel was first constructed in 2010, making us the perfect choice for providing the electrical services for its refit.

McKay was contracted by Babcock for the design, supply of the electrical equipment for the vessel, which included:

  • Design and supply of a fully automated switchboard and motor control centres
  • Design and supply of communication detection systems
  • Design and supply of a sensitive compartment information facility
  • Supplied and installed equipment for intelligence surveillance room
  • Supplied and installed cabling and cable supports
  • Fully lighting design and supply

For this project we were able to work on a vessel that we helped to originally build. This gave us unique qualification for this work, as this continuity of service meant that we could use our past experience working on the HMNZS Wellington’s electrical systems to aid us in the designing of the reconfiguration. By consistently working with us we are able to build up a greater knowledge based about our client’s assets and use this knowledge to deliver even better results.
