The HMNZS Te Kaha is an ANZAC class frigate, designed to be one of the two main fighting ships for the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN). This project occurred alongside the large upgrade to the other ANZAC class frigate that the RNZN, the HMNZS Te Mana, and was performed to bring it in line with its sister ship. By having the same integrated platform system the two vessels are better equipped to work together in the field. The redesign and integration of the vessel’s network allows it to use its electrical and mechanical systems at peak efficiency.
McKay was contracted by Siemens for the refurbishment, and renewal of the electrical data and ICT networking, which included:
A complete refit of the systems networking equipment aboard this vessel allowed us to provide the very best in electrical work by letting us design the system as a whole. We were able to provide a turnkey solution that was fully integrated with itself and the ship. For data and ICT projects such as this we make it a top priority that our systems should be as powerful and easy to use for the end user as possible.
